When it’s hot and sunny outside, nothing feels better than an ice cold, energy-boosting green smoothie. Since I drink green smoothies all of the time, I like to change up the ingredients so I don’t get bored. If you’re in a green smoothie rut, you have to try this recipe! It has a really unique, refreshing flavor that will completely reboot your taste buds.
Although basil is often the main star in many savory Mediterranean dishes, it surprisingly pairs well with the tropical fruit in this smoothie recipe. It also adds an addictive cooling herbaceous sweetness to it that is out of this world. A member of the mint family, basil contains beneficial antioxidant flavonoids and antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory oils. Fresh basil also has a healthy dose of vitamin K (good for blood-clotting), vitamin A, manganese, and magnesium.
Take this green smoothie with you on the go in a thermos or ball jar… or pour it into a bowl and top it with berries and coconut flakes. It’ll rev you up in the morning and cool you down after an invigorating workout.
